About Johan Scott

Johan & Ronell are the owners/managers at Ximongwe River Camp situated in the greater Kruger National Park and is, as such, exposed to some of the best nature and wildlife photography opportunities in South Africa.  Johan’s extensive knowledge of the African bush, its vegetation and its creatures, big and small, combined with excellent photographic skills, make him the ideal companion and guide on a photographic safari.  His photographic ventures have taken him throughout southern and central Africa, where he has also tracked the Lowland-Gorillas in the DRC. Johan is an all-rounder.  This is evident from his varied qualifications and professional membership.

He is an associate member of PSSA (Photographic Society of South Africa); a qualified field guide and member of FGASA (Field Guide Association of South Africa), as well as a qualified first aider. Johan’s comprehensive knowledge of the birds of Southern Africa is clearly illustrated in his portfolio.  No wonder that his forte is bird photography, which requires patience, tenacity and a firm knowledge of birds and their behavior. Johan is also known to be a equipment junky and to this extent have wide knowledge on the latest photography equipment and their operation.

Photo Workshops

Keen to share his experience of 20 years in wildlife photography with you, we are offering photographic workshops at Ximongwe River Camp. The quickest way to learn the tricks of the trade is to schedule a private or  group tuition session with him where he shares his knowledge with you in an personal and relaxed setting, covering topics such as camera settings, field techniques, computer and software setup, post processing.

Staying at Ximongwe River Camp, he accompanies you on game drives (game drive vehicle equiped with camera support systems) or walks where he is also the guide and will help you practice the field techniques that he has refined through many years behind his cameras at various locations in southern Africa. The setting at Ximongwe River Camp is ideal for this type of workshop as the camp is situated on the bank of the Olifants River with ample opportunity for birds in flight and wildlife visiting the river on a constant basis.
