Africa’s ultimate water-focused safari
Discover a modern, sophisticated sanctuary on a private island at the heart of the Okavango Delta
Belmond Eagle Island Lodge brings timeless luxury to the Botswana wetlands. High-ceilinged tented rooms flood with light; each has a plunge pool and oversized bed with views of the Delta. Get closer to the wildlife of this UNESCO World Heritage Site—silently glide past hippos in a traditional canoe as fish eagles soar overhead.

The Rooms

A stylish sanctuary in the heart of the delta

Flooded with light by day, our safari accommodation is indulgently cosy at night. Unwind in the soothing grey interior, punctuated by flashes of deep gold. Or stretch out on the oversized bed, framed by a stunning copper headboard. Best of all, each tented room boasts its own plunge pool and private deck—both perfect for soaking up the scenery.

Integral to the rich history of Botswana, the lodge was established in the 1900s when intrepid explorers and crocodile hunters first flocked to the delta. Since then, we’ve refined safari living to an art. Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is among the most environmentally friendly lodges in the country, and our private drives are a truly intimate way to get closer to the country’s natural wonders.

The inviting tented rooms at Belmond Khwai River Lodge feature panoramic private decks. They’re the perfect theatre from which to enjoy the drama of the wild. After a day spent in the savannah, unwind in the tranquil pool or share stories by the fire. Want a massage on your private deck? All you have to do is ask.

The Rooms

A front row seat for the drama of the Delta

Our safari accommodation lets nature come to you. Each lodge is surrounded by land teeming with life. Witness the elephants herding their young from your private elevated deck. Or revive at sundown in a private plunge pool––you might hear the call of slaty egret bidding each other goodnight.

Belmond Khwai River Lodge holds a special place in Botswana’s history. Opened in 1971 by Harry Selby, it was one of the first lodges to promote safaris with a conservation ethos. Its proximity to the Delta floodplains also led Selby to build the ‘bridge over the river Khwai’. Today this serves as the famous North Gate entrance into the Reserve
