Timbavati Reserve

The camp is situated at the south western end of Schoongezicht farm (1065ha) in the western corner of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve ( 58,000ha) and shares a common unfenced border with the Kruger National Park allowing animals free range and ensuring guests to the area the opportunity to view the greatest diversity of wildlife that Africa has to offer. Guests are able to view the big game from open vehicles, on foot or from the comfort of your room as you experience timeless Africa. The Timbavati and particularly this reserve is renowned for its large number of animals and birds. The Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Lion. This is also a malaria area so proper precautions are necessary. Unique river birds such as the Purple Crested Lourie are common at the River Camp. The critically endangered African wild dog is also a regular visitor to the Timbavati Reserve. An open Landrover Game Viewer vehicle is on hand for game drives. The terrain is undulating with altitudes varying between 300 and 500m above sea level. The area is characterised as ‘savanna bushveld’ with 6 different landscape types: acacia woodland, open woodland, mopane woodland, combretum woodland, mixed combretum woodland and mixed veld on Gabbro.
