THE RESTAURANT

Artists Charl and Andrea Fourie welcome you to the Bohemian Groove Café in Kaapsche Hoop, where home cooked food, great friends and creative art meet! The Restaurant offers a feast to the senses, with delicious food, vibey music, creative people and beautiful interiors. The gallery restaurant opened its doors in April 2011, and moved to the current new venue at the entrance of the village in May 2014. Both Charl and Andrea studied Art at the Pretoria Technicon, and opened the funky Zeederberg Coach House Restaurant in Sabie in 1995. After a 10 year stint in Hazyview in the hospitality trade and metal furniture factory workshops, they decided to settle in the sleepy village of Kaapsehoop.

The restaurant is an art-piece in itself, with fine art displayed on the walls, handmade furniture and light fittings created by Charl. Charl’s blacksmith workshop creates custom design furniture, light fittings or objects d’art per client’s specifications – chat to Charl about this, he loves a design challenge!

THE CHEF

Andrea is the creative chef in the kitchen, and all salads and herbs are picked from the vegetable garden on the premises. The menu consists of local ingredients, including fresh and smoked trout, salads and herbs, grills, freshly baked waffles, freshly brewed coffee and cocktails. Other specialities include our famous homemade chicken liver pate, lamb curry, burgers, prego and grills. We also cater for Vegetarians and Banters, and serve a kickass espresso with our homemade lemon meringue pie or variety of waffles. Sip a cocktail on our veranda with a view over the mountains and the wild horses, or warm up in our misty weather with some homemade gluhwein and soup in front of our cosy coal stoves.

LIVE MUSIC

Bohemian Groove Cafe has been a supporter of the South African Arts and Live Music since its opening day, and live music performances are a regular item on the weekly menu. Musicians – local and from afar – perform every Sunday lunch, from 12h00 – 15h00. On long weekends, public holidays or special functions we have occasional live music too.

THE MENU

All meals at Bohemian Groove Café are prepared freshly on order by the chefs in our kitchen. We pride ourselves that we support local and all our lettuces, leafy vegetables, edible flowers and herbs are grown in our own vegetable gardens.
Our menu changes seasonally – we offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and also cater for vegans and vegetarians. Breakfast offers traditional English breakfast, waffles and health dishes, freshly ground espresso and a selection of teas, juices and fruity smoothies.
Lunch can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the Blue Swallow Reserve or on the veranda if the mist rolls in. We offer fresh salads, wraps, burgers, smoked trout- and Bockwurst mini platters. A large Ploughman’s Platter can be shared between friends and consists of cold meats, cheeses, pickles, salads, pate, fruits, breads and crackers. Enjoy a glass of our freshly brewed local ginger beer with your meal, or enjoy a glass of ice cold craft beer with a pretzel.
